Local debt collector enters guilty plea

A Grand Island man who was involved in several local debt collection agencies described by federal prosecutors as “illegitimate” pleaded guilty to a pair of charges on Friday.

During an appearance in federal court in Buffalo, 49-year-old Joseph Ciffa pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and filing a false tax return before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
