CFPB Fines Company Over Allegations of Delaying Customer Payments

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said Bluestem Brands, Bluestem Enterprises and Bluestem Sales substantially delayed sending payments to third-party debt buyers after consumers made payments on debts the companies already sold. The bureau found that between 2013 and 2016, Bluestem delayed forwarding payments for more than 31 days in 18,000 instances; in 3,500 of those instances, Bluestem delayed forwarding payments for more than a year. The companies, which operate under the names Fingerhut and Gettington.com, were fined $200,000.
